In most utilities in California, including PGE, SCE and SDGE, adding energy storage to your existing Net Energy Metering (NEM) solar electric system will not cause the grandfathered NEM 1.0 plan that you are currently on to transition to the NEM 2.0 if the energy storage system is less than 10 kW (two Tesla Powerwalls).
Please note that if you add additional solar or upgraded your system in the past without notifying the utility, >10% size of existing system or 1 kW (whichever is less), your Net Energy Metering plan will be upgraded to the NEM 2.0 system upon interconnection of the storage or upgraded solar system.
Some small municipally owned utilities are still determining their Net Metering policies with storage and if you get your electricity from one of these municipalities we will review the policies with you before anything is installed at your home.
